About the Land Cruiser FJ60 FJ60

The FJ60 was the carbureted original — the 2F inline-six with 135 hp, a four-speed manual (later five-speed), and part-time four-wheel drive. No frills, no electronics, no compromises. The 2F engine was a 4.2-liter pushrod design that prioritized low-end torque over everything else, and it delivered that torque with the subtlety of a construction machine. The body was steel-over-frame, the interior was vinyl, and the air conditioning was an option that most buyers selected immediately. The FJ60 could wade through rivers, climb rocky trails, and then drive the family to school on Monday morning. It did all of this at a pace that suggested urgency was a foreign concept. The FJ60 is the Land Cruiser purists prefer: mechanical, simple, and endlessly repairable with basic tools in the middle of nowhere.
