About the M3 E90
The fourth M3 dropped the straight-six for a V8, the only eight-cylinder M3 so far. The 4.0-litre S65 made 420 PS at 8,300 rpm and 400 Nm, revved to 8,400 rpm and took the coupe to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. US ratings were 414 hp and 295 lb-ft. The E92 coupe arrived in 2007 with a carbon-fibre roof and a front axle made almost entirely of aluminium; the E90 sedan followed months later and the E93 convertible in 2008. The 2010 GTS and the 2011 CRT, 67 cars with 450 PS, marked the extremes. When coupe production ended in July 2013, BMW had built more than 40,000 coupes, almost 10,000 sedans and just under 16,000 convertibles.
