About the X3 G01

BMW put the X3 on the CLAR platform and the G01 finally felt like a proper BMW instead of a tall wagon with an identity crisis. The B48 four-cylinder in the 30i made 248 hp, the B58 six in the M40i hit 355 hp, and the X3 M Competition got the S58 at 503 hp. A compact SUV running mid-3-second sprints. The chassis was balanced, the xDrive system was well-calibrated, and the M40i in particular found a sweet spot between comfort and sport. iDrive worked well, the interior was a clear improvement over the F25, and the cargo space was competitive. The G01 X3 became one of BMW's best sellers because it was the right size for most people and drove well enough that the badge felt earned.
