About the Equinox 1st Gen
The original Equinox launched in 2004 as Chevrolets answer to the compact SUV boom, replacing the Tracker with something more substantial. Built on a stretched version of the Saturn Vue platform, it offered a 3.4 V6 with 185 horsepower and available AWD. The body-on-frame underpinnings gave it a truck-like ride that the segment was already moving away from. Interior space was generous, and the styling was conservative. The first Equinox was a placeholder more than a statement — GM needed something in the segment and built it fast.
