About the Malibu 8th Gen

Chevy revived the Malibu nameplate in 2008 and built something genuinely competitive for the first time in years. The Epsilon II platform shared with the Opel Insignia meant European chassis tuning underneath an American body. The 2.4-liter Ecotec made 169 hp and was efficient enough. The 3.6 V6 pushed to 252 hp and gave the Malibu overtaking confidence the four-cylinder lacked. The interior was the biggest improvement. Soft-touch materials, a dual-cockpit design, and build quality that GM hadn't delivered in this segment before. The LTZ trim with leather and the V6 felt like a genuinely premium mid-size sedan. The eighth-gen Malibu proved GM could compete in the segment when they tried. Sales were decent but the Camry and Accord had decades of trust that one good generation couldn't erase.
