Nine thousand RPM. From a naturally aspirated V8. In a production car. The 458 Italia had a 4.5-liter direct-injection V8 that made 570 hp and sounded like it was trying to leave the atmosphere. The dual-clutch 7-speed was the best gearbox Ferrari had ever made. The chassis was so communicative that you could feel individual paving stones through the steering wheel. The Speciale added active aero, side force generators, and 35 more horsepower while dropping 90 kg. It was the 458 with nothing held back. Both versions remain the benchmark that every naturally aspirated mid-engine car is measured against.
