About the F-150 6th Gen
The sixth-gen F-150 ran from 1973 to 1979 and was the truck that transitioned Ford from work vehicle manufacturer to lifestyle brand. The Ranger and Custom trims were the work trucks. The Lariat was the one with chrome, carpet, and air conditioning. Ford sold the idea that a pickup could be your daily driver, not just your job site transport. The 360 and 390 FE V8s were the engines that moved America's cargo. The 300 inline-six refused to quit. Dana axles, leaf springs, live rear end. The crew cab arrived in this generation, adding four doors and genuine passenger capability. The sixth gen also introduced the F-150 as a separate model from the F-100, establishing the nameplate that would become the best-selling vehicle in America.
