About the F-150 9th Gen
The ninth-gen F-150 arrived in 1992 and was the last round-body truck Ford built. The 5.0 Windsor V8 made 185 hp, the 5.8 pushed to 210 hp, and the 4.9 inline-six was the fleet buyer's engine that refused to die. Regular cab, SuperCab, and the new-for-'97 third door that made the SuperCab actually usable. The chassis was softer than the eighth gen, the interior was more car-like, and Ford added driver-side airbags because the government made them. The Lightning SVT showed up in 1993 with a 240-hp 5.8 and lowered suspension, the first factory performance truck that mattered. The ninth gen sold in massive numbers because it was a capable, comfortable work truck that doubled as daily transport. The formula Ford would scale for the next three decades.
