About the Civic 4th Gen
The fourth-gen Civic arrived in 1987 with independent double-wishbone suspension on all four corners. On an economy car. Honda wasn't interested in building basic transportation. The D-series engines were efficient and rev-happy, the Si trim got the D16A6 with 108 hp and a personality that started above 5,000 rpm. Chassis rigidity jumped over the third gen, and the whole car weighed barely over 900 kg in base trim. The hatchback and CRX variants became the foundation for an entire generation of autocross and track day cars. Three body styles, all of them good. This was the generation where Honda's "man maximum, machine minimum" philosophy stopped being a slogan and started being something you could feel through the steering wheel.
