About the Civic FB
Ninth-gen Civic, and Honda played it safe after the polarizing eighth gen. The FB went back to a traditional trunk instead of the fastback, which pleased conservative buyers and bored everyone else. The R18A 1.8-liter made 140 hp, adequate and efficient. The Si got the K24Z7 at 201 hp with a six-speed manual and a limited-slip diff. That was the one worth driving. The base car was competent, fuel-efficient, and thoroughly unremarkable. Build quality took a hit from the previous gen early on, and Honda issued updates to address interior material complaints. The hybrid used a single-motor IMA system that returned 44 mpg. The FB Civic was a correction, not a revolution. Honda needed a car that wouldn't scare anyone, and they delivered exactly that.
