About the Santa Fe CM
Second-gen Santa Fe, and Hyundai got serious about being a real SUV manufacturer. The CM got bigger, offered third-row seating for the first time, and came with a 2.7 V6 at 185 hp or a 3.3 V6 making 242 hp. The chassis was based on the Sonata platform, which meant it drove like a car with extra ground clearance. AWD was available with a locking center coupling. The interior was a step up from the first gen with better materials and a more cohesive design. The CM was the Santa Fe that started showing up in suburban driveways next to Highlanders and Pilots. Hyundai priced it aggressively and loaded it with standard features. The warranty sealed the deal for cautious buyers. Not exciting, but thoroughly competent.
