About the Santa Fe MX5
Hyundai went big and angular with the MX5 Santa Fe and the result was a three-row that looked nothing like the rounded crossover it replaced. Flat surfaces, sharp creases, and a front end that referenced classic outdoor gear more than traditional automotive design. The 2.5-liter turbo made 281 hp, same proven unit from the Tucson and Sportage. Hybrid option combined for 232 hp. The interior got a terrain-inspired center console with physical toggles that looked different and worked well. Third row was usable for adults under normal circumstances. E-MPACT architecture underneath, which meant the hybrid drove the rear axle electrically for genuine AWD capability. The MX5 was Hyundai saying they didn't need to copy anyone anymore.
