About the Santa Fe SM
The SM Santa Fe was Hyundais first real SUV, and it arrived in 2000 with something to prove. Built on a unibody platform when body-on-frame was still the default, it offered a 2.7 V6 with available AWD at a price that undercut the competition by thousands. The styling was distinctive if polarizing — those stacked headlights were either bold or bizarre depending on who you asked. What mattered was the value: a capable, comfortable, well-equipped family SUV that cost less than a base-model competitor from Japan.
