About the X-Trail T30
Nissan built the T30 X-Trail as a compact SUV for people who actually went outdoors. The QR20DE 2.0-liter made 140 hp, the QR25DE 2.5 pushed to 165 hp, and diesel options covered Europe. The interior had washable cargo surfaces and a flat load floor that swallowed camping gear without complaint. All Mode 4x4 could lock the center diff for genuine off-road capability that most compact crossovers didn't offer. The ride was firm, the steering was direct for an SUV, and the chassis felt more like a tall hatchback than a truck. Build quality was Nissan-solid for the era. The T30 sold well in Europe, Australia, and Japan where outdoor culture met compact parking requirements. Nissan made it practical first and everything else second. That honesty resonated.
