About the Hilux N100

The N100 series Hilux covered 1988 to 1997 and became the truck that proved Toyota's reliability reputation wasn't marketing. The 22R-E four-cylinder made 116 hp and would run on neglect for decades. The 3VZ-E V6 pushed 150 hp for buyers who wanted more. Solid rear axle, leaf springs, body-on-frame. Nothing about this truck was complicated, and that was the entire engineering brief. The extended cab added usable rear seats without stretching the wheelbase too far. These trucks survived abuse that would've killed anything else on the market. Farm trucks, trail runners, overlanders before overlanding was a lifestyle brand. The N100 is why people still say "just buy a Hilux" when someone asks what used truck to get.
