About the Hilux N30

The N30 Hilux ran from 1968 to 1972 and was the truck that started everything. Toyota's first proper compact pickup, built light and simple with the 3R 1.5-liter making 71 hp and a four-speed manual. Leaf springs, live axles, a bench seat, and nothing else to go wrong. The body was small by any standard, barely larger than a modern hatchback, but the bed was functional and the payload was honest. Toyota exported these to every market that would take them, and they outsold expectations in all of them. The N30 established the formula that every Hilux since has followed: build it tough, build it simple, price it right. Half a century later, the principle hasn't changed. Just the execution.
