The XA30 RAV4 made Toyota confront an uncomfortable truth: people wanted their cute little SUV to actually be big. So they made it bigger. Way bigger. The 2005 redesign jumped to a V6 option producing 269 horsepower — absurd for a vehicle that started life as a fun-sized city runabout. The unibody platform delivered surprisingly capable handling, and the optional third row meant families could pretend it was a minivan alternative. This generation pushed RAV4 into the sales stratosphere where it still orbits today.
