The Mk7 GTI moved to MQB and lost up to 42 kg in the process. It launched in 2013 with an EA888 2.0 TSI at 220 PS, or 230 PS as the Performance, which added a front axle differential lock. US cars started at 210 hp, or 220 hp with the Performance Package and its electronically controlled limited-slip diff, and ended the generation at 228 hp. In 2017 Europe got 230 and 245 PS. The 40th-anniversary Clubsport made 265 PS, 290 PS on overboost, and the 310 PS two-seat Clubsport S lapped the Nordschleife in 7:49.21, a front-drive record at the time. The Performance with that diff is the most complete GTI Volkswagen has built.
