About the Golf Mk2
The Mk2 Golf grew up. Bigger, heavier, and more refined than the Mk1, it traded some of the original's raw charm for genuine comfort and build quality. The GTI got a 16-valve head and suddenly had 139 hp to play with. The Rallye Golf got a supercharger and all-wheel drive. The G60 models proved Volkswagen could make a fast car when they wanted to. The Mk2 sold for nearly a decade and in huge numbers — this was the generation that turned the Golf from a clever idea into a global institution.
