About the Jetta Mk6
VW built the Mk6 Jetta specifically for the American market and made it cheaper. The PQ35 platform carried over from the Mk5, but VW cut costs on interior materials to hit a lower price point. The 2.5-liter five-cylinder stayed at 170 hp, the 2.0 TSI GLI pushed to 200 hp with the EA888. The GLI was still a good car, sport suspension and a six-speed manual making it the budget alternative to a GTI with a trunk. The base interior was noticeably cheaper than the Mk5, with hard plastics where soft-touch used to be. The TDI diesel returned 42 mpg and was the smart money until the emissions scandal killed it. The Mk6 Jetta sold in huge numbers because of the price. VW sacrificed some premium feel and the American market didn't mind.
