About the Tiguan Mk1
The original Tiguan arrived in 2007 and gave VW something they desperately needed: a compact SUV that did not feel like a compromise. Built on the PQ46 platform shared with the Golf, it drove like a hatchback but sat high enough to satisfy the crossover crowd. The 2.0 TSI turbo four was the sweet spot — responsive and refined. In Europe, the Tiguan quickly became one of VWs best sellers. The formula was simple: Golf quality, SUV packaging, premium pricing that people were willing to pay.
