The E36 3 Series always lived in the wrong place at the wrong time. After the E30's raw purity. Before the E46's perfection. The E36 was rounder, softer, and more refined than either — and that made purists suspicious. But the S50 and S52 inline-sixes were brilliant engines. The chassis was more capable than the E30's in every objective measurement. The E36 M3 won races. The 328i was one of the best daily drivers of the 1990s. Someday the E36 will get the respect it deserves. Prices suggest that day is getting closer.
