About the 3 Series E90

The E90 brought turbocharging and new engine technology into the mainstream 3 Series. The sedan premiered at the 2005 Geneva show, 49 mm longer and 78 mm wider than the E46 but no heavier, and won World Car of the Year. Its six-cylinders were the first volume engines with a magnesium-aluminium composite crankcase and used Valvetronic; in the US the 328i made 230 hp from 2007. The 2006 coupe introduced the 335i's twin-turbo six with 306 PS, 300 hp in the US, and the 2007 convertible was the first open BMW with a retractable hardtop. EfficientDynamics later brought Auto Start Stop and Brake Energy Regeneration to the four-cylinders. Sedan, Touring, Coupe and Convertible sales reached 3,102,345.
