About the Escalade 2nd Generation (GMT800)
This is where the Escalade became the Escalade. The GMT800 was the first one built with actual intent — not a badge job, but a proper Cadillac truck with the Art & Science design language that made it look like nothing else on the road. The 6.0-liter Vortec made 345 hp, the interior got real wood and real leather, and Cadillac added the ESV long-wheelbase and EXT pickup variants for people who needed even more presence. This generation landed in hip-hop's golden era and became inseparable from it. 22-inch chrome wheels weren't optional — they were the point. The GMT800 proved the first gen wasn't a fluke. The market wanted a luxury truck with a Cadillac badge, and Cadillac finally gave them one worth the price.
