They actually did it. After sixty-seven years of the engine sitting in front of the driver, Chevrolet moved it behind. The C8 is a mid-engine Corvette with a flat-plane crank V8 option that revs to 8,600 rpm and sounds like nothing else from Detroit. The base Stingray makes 495 hp from the LT2 and hits 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds for under $70,000. The Z06 gets the hand-built LT6 — 670 hp from 5.5 liters, naturally aspirated, at a redline that embarrasses Italian exotics. The C8 didn't just change the Corvette. It changed what's possible at the price point.
