About the Testarossa
The Testarossa was excess made beautiful. A flat-twelve engine the width of a dining table, side strakes that became the visual signature of the 1980s, and a cabin wide enough that the passenger felt like they were in a different time zone. Pininfarina drew it. Ferrari built 7,177 of them. Miami Vice made it famous. It replaced the Berlinetta Boxer in 1984 with 390 hp from a 4.9-liter flat-12, and for a car that weighed 1,506 kg, it moved. Not with the surgical precision of a mid-engine V8, but with the kind of effortless thrust that only twelve cylinders and no turbocharger can deliver. The Testarossa was never the fastest Ferrari. It was the one that made you feel richest.
