About the Fiesta Mk1
The original Fiesta arrived in 1976 because Ford of Europe needed something smaller than the Escort, and they needed it fast. What they built was a front-wheel-drive supermini that felt more agile and more fun than it had any right to be at the price. Designed in just 18 months, the Mk1 sold over 2 million units by the time it was replaced. The recipe was dead simple: light weight, responsive steering, and an engine that revved willingly. Europe fell in love. Ford had a new nameplate for the next five decades.
