About the Fiesta Mk2
Ford refined the Fiesta for the Mk2 without reinventing it. Between 1983 and 1989, the updates were evolutionary — smoother body panels, better rust protection, and the introduction of the XR2 hot hatch variant that gave the Fiesta its first real performance credibility. The 1.6 CVH engine in the XR2 was a screamer for the era, and the lightweight chassis rewarded aggressive driving. This was the generation that proved small Fords could be genuinely exciting, not just economical.
