About the Mustang S197
The S197 Mustang brought the retro look back. After the rounded New Edge design, Ford went full 1960s homage with long-hood proportions, a chrome grille, and styling cues lifted straight from the 1st Gen. The Three Valve 4.6 V8 made 300 hp. The Shelby GT500 made 500. Live rear axle stayed because Ford knew their customers wanted burnouts more than lap times. The S197 ran for a decade across two facelifts and proved that nostalgia could sell — as long as there was a V8 behind it.
