About the CR-V RD4
Honda redesigned the CR-V for 2002 and made it less quirky and more practical. The K24A1 2.4-liter made 160 hp, a significant bump from the RD1's B20. Real-Time AWD stayed. The picnic table was gone, replaced by a flat cargo floor that was more useful even if less charming. The spare tire moved off the tailgate and under the floor. The ride was more refined, the cabin quieter, and the interior finally felt like Honda was building an SUV instead of a raised Civic. The driving experience was still car-like, which was the CR-V's greatest strength. It handled parking lots and highway on-ramps with equal competence. Honda sold the RD4 in massive numbers because it did everything a suburban family needed without pretending to be a truck.
