About the i30 GD
Second-gen i30, and Hyundai started taking the European hatch market seriously. The GD got a 1.6-liter GDI making 135 hp, a 1.6 turbo at 186 hp in the SR trim, and a 1.6 CRDi diesel that Europe loved at 128 hp. The chassis was developed at the Nürburgring, which Hyundai mentioned at every opportunity. It showed in the handling. Controlled body roll, communicative steering for the segment, and a ride that balanced comfort and composure. The interior was a clear step up from the FD with better materials and a more cohesive design. The three-door coupe variant looked sharp and gave Hyundai a lifestyle play. The GD i30 was the generation that made Europeans consider Hyundai without needing a discount to justify the badge.
