About the i30
The i30 exists because Hyundai wanted a piece of the European hatchback market. The FD and GD generations did that job — competent, well-equipped, priced right, thoroughly unremarkable. A Golf alternative for people who wanted a longer warranty and didn't care about badge prestige. Then the PD generation arrived with the N badge, and the i30 became the most important car Hyundai ever built. 280 horsepower. A mechanical limited-slip differential. Rev-matching on the six-speed manual. Developed at the Nurburgring by Albert Biermann's team — engineers who previously made BMWs go fast for a living. The i30 N didn't just compete with the Golf GTI and Focus ST. It embarrassed them on the same roads they were developed on. Before the i30 N, Hyundai had customers. After it, Hyundai had fans. That's a different thing entirely.
