The L405 was an engineering masterclass. An aluminum monocoque body shed 420 kg from the L322, making it the lightest full-size luxury SUV on the market. The 5.0 supercharged V8 made 510 hp in Autobiography spec. The TDV6 and SDV8 diesels offered the torque without the tax. The cabin finally looked like it belonged in the same conversation as a Bentayga. The L405 was the first Range Rover that drove like a luxury sedan on the motorway and still waded through 900mm of water without blinking. The terrain response system worked so well it made off-roading feel automated. Purists complained it was too easy. Buyers didn't care.
