The W204 was the first C-Class AMG to wear a 63 badge and the last with a naturally aspirated V8. Mercedes called the engine a 6.3, but it displaced 6,208 cc and made 457 PS at 6,800 rpm and 600 Nm at 5,000. America rated it at 451 hp. One technician assembled each engine from start to finish and signed the AMG plate on top. A seven-speed automatic that blipped the throttle on downshifts drove the rear wheels, and Mercedes quoted 4.5 s to 100 km/h. Sedan and estate went on sale in early 2008. A coupe joined for the 2012 model year in the US, alongside a Black Series coupe, and the 2014 Edition 507 package raised output to 507 hp.
