About the C63

The C63 is the V8 end of a line that started before the C-Class had its name. AMG's 190 E 3.2 came in 1987. In September 1993 the C 36 AMG became the first car Mercedes-Benz and AMG developed and built together, a 280 PS straight-six. The C 43 brought a 306 PS V8 in 1997, a supercharged V6 C 32 followed in 2001 and a 367 PS C 55 arrived with the W203 in 2004. Mercedes counted about 22,000 C-Class AMGs sold by 2007. The C 63 went on sale in early 2008 with a 6.2-litre V8 and 457 PS, rated at 451 hp in the US. The W205 swapped it for a twin-turbo 4.0 with up to 510 PS. Then the W206 C 63 S E PERFORMANCE switched to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with an electric motor on the rear axle: 680 PS, and all-wheel drive for the first time in a C 63. Every C63 before it sent its power to the rear wheels only.
