About the E-Class W210
The W210 E-Class had the twin headlights that defined late-'90s Mercedes and a reputation for corrosion that haunted the brand. The M112 V6 in the E320 made 221 hp and was smooth and quiet. The E55 AMG got the M113 5.4-liter V8 at 349 hp, fast and understated in a way AMG wouldn't be again. The interior was excellent when new, with wood trim and leather that felt proper. But the rust. Front fenders, wheel arches, subframe mounts. Mercedes used thinner metal than the W124 and skimped on corrosion protection. The cars that survived are the well-maintained ones, and those drive beautifully. The W210 was a better car than its reputation suggests, undermined by cost-cutting during the DaimlerChrysler era that shouldn't have happened.
