About the G-Class W460
The original G-Wagen — designed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Austria, built for the Shah of Iran's military, and adopted by every army, aid organization, and adventurer who needed a vehicle that wouldn't break in places where breaking down meant dying. The W460 had three locking differentials, a ladder frame, and the aerodynamics of a brick. It was perfect. The inline-four and inline-five diesels were slow but indestructible. The 280GE with the M110 inline-six was the quick one — relatively speaking. The interior was vinyl and rubber, designed to be hosed clean. Nothing about the W460 suggested luxury. Everything about it suggested survival.
