The 280GE was the petrol-powered W460 — the M110 DOHC inline-six providing 156 hp and a refinement that the diesel variants couldn't match. For a military vehicle, the 280GE felt almost civilized. The four-speed manual with low-range transfer case and three locking differentials meant it could go literally anywhere. The speed at which it got there was a secondary concern.
