About the GLC X253
Mercedes built the GLC to replace the GLK and the transition from boxy to smooth was immediate. The X253 rode on the C-Class W205 platform, which meant it drove like a raised sedan rather than an SUV pretending to be civilized. The M274 2.0-liter turbo made 241 hp in the GLC 300, smooth and adequate. The AMG GLC 63 got the M177 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 at 469 hp, which was absurd in a compact crossover. The interior matched the C-Class with COMAND infotainment, real wood or aluminum trim, and build quality that justified the badge. Air suspension was optional and transformed the ride. The GLC became Mercedes' best-selling model globally because it was the right size, the right price, and drove well enough that nobody felt like they'd compromised.
