About the GLE V167
Mercedes updated the GLE to the V167 and gave it the tech to compete with the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 on features, not just badge appeal. The M256 inline-six in the GLE 450 made 362 hp with EQ Boost mild-hybrid, smooth and powerful. The M176 V8 in the GLE 580 hit 483 hp. The AMG GLE 63 S got the M177 at 603 hp with a rear-mounted auxiliary electric motor. The interior was the leap. Dual 12.3-inch screens, MBUX with natural language processing, and a cabin that blurred the line with the GLS. E-Active Body Control on the top trims could lean into corners and lift individual wheels for off-road recovery. Nobody used it. Everyone talked about it. The V167 was Mercedes showing that an SUV could be both a tech demonstrator and a comfortable family hauler.
