About the Altima L30
The first Altima arrived in 1993 as Nissan's replacement for the Stanza, and the KA24DE 2.4-liter made 150 hp. Front-wheel drive, four-speed automatic or five-speed manual, and a chassis that was tuned more toward comfort than sport. The interior was clean and functional, with Nissan's build quality from the early '90s holding up well. The GXE and SE trims offered enough differentiation to cover most buyers. The L30 Altima was competent but invisible in a segment dominated by the Camry and Accord. Nissan priced it aggressively and offered more standard features, which moved units without building loyalty. The first Altima was a solid mid-sizer that nobody felt passionate about. Nissan would fix that with the L31.
