About the Altima U13

The U13 Altima replaced the Stanza in 1993 and immediately established Nissan in the midsize sedan war. The KA24DE 2.4-liter four-cylinder was a peach of an engine — smooth, responsive, and willing to rev in a segment where most powertrains felt asleep. The chassis was notably stiffer than the competition, giving the Altima a driving character that Honda Accord owners grudgingly respected. In a decade dominated by the Camry-Accord duopoly, the U13 carved out genuine third-option credibility.
