About the Skyline GT-R
The car that made "JDM" mean something. Before the R32 Skyline GT-R showed up at Bathurst in 1992 and obliterated the local V8 touring cars so badly they changed the rules, Nissan's halo car was a well-kept Japanese secret. After that, the world paid attention. Three generations of GT-R wore the Skyline badge: R32, R33, R34. All shared the same basic formula: RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six, ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive, and a rated output of 280 hp that fooled absolutely nobody. The gentleman's agreement number was a joke, and every tuner in Japan was in on it. Bolt on a bigger turbo kit and these things made 500, 600, 800 hp on stock internals. The R34 became the holy grail. Paul Walker drove one in a movie. Gran Turismo made it a legend before most buyers could legally import one. When the 25-year rule opened the door to the US market, prices went vertical and haven't come down since.
