The first water-cooled 911. 300 hp from the new M96 flat-six with DOHC heads and VarioCam Plus. Lighter, stiffer, and faster than the 993 it replaced. The fried-egg headlights divided opinions then and still do now. The intermediate shaft bearing can fail. None of that changes the fact that the 996 Carrera is one of the best-value performance cars ever made.
