About Renault
Renault has been building cars since before most car companies existed. Founded in 1899 by three brothers in Boulogne-Billancourt, the company spent its first century making everything from taxis to tanks. But ask any enthusiast what Renault means to them, and they'll say two words: Renault Sport. The RS division turned ordinary hatchbacks into weapons. While the rest of France was busy making comfortable cruisers, Renault Sport was bolting motorsport-derived engines into superminis and sending them to the Nürburgring. The Clio V6 put a mid-mounted engine where the back seats used to be. The Mégane RS held the Ring record so many times they stopped counting. They didn't have BMW's budget or Porsche's prestige. What they had was a willingness to build cars that made no financial sense — lightweight, naturally aspirated, focused machines priced for normal people. The hot hatch as a philosophy, not a marketing exercise. Renault Sport is gone now, folded into Alpine. But the cars it built are appreciating faster than anything else in the segment. The market figured it out.
