About the Forester SJ
Fourth-gen Forester, and Subaru made it bigger because everyone else did. The SJ got the FB25 2.5-liter naturally aspirated at 170 hp and the FA20DIT turbo at 250 hp in the XT. The turbo with a six-speed manual was the enthusiast's pick and Subaru sold about twelve of them. CVT was the volume transmission and it was fine for what the SJ was: a family crossover with AWD and decent ground clearance. EyeSight driver assistance arrived on the Forester for the first time. The interior was improved with a larger touchscreen and better materials in the upper trims. The SJ was wider, taller, and more comfortable than the SH. It was also less fun to drive, which was the trade Subaru made for sales volume. It worked.
