About the Forester
The Forester is Subaru distilled into an SUV — boxer engine, symmetrical AWD, and more visibility than a greenhouse on wheels. Launched in 1997 as a lifted Impreza wagon, the Forester was Subaru's answer to the CR-V and RAV4 before either became a global phenomenon. The first two generations kept the turbocharged EJ engine as an option, and the XT variant was essentially a WRX with more cargo space and a worse reputation. It was fast, capable, and completely ignored by the enthusiast press. The third generation dropped the turbo in most markets. The fourth added an awkward CVT. The fifth generation leaned fully into safety and practicality with EyeSight driver assistance and enough ground clearance to handle fire roads without drama. The Forester's defining trait has always been its glass area — enormous windows that give the driver visibility SUVs twice its price can't match. It's a car designed by engineers who apparently have never heard of a blind spot. On Revnut, the Forester ranks where Subaru's engineering philosophy meets the community's taste.
