About the Forester SG
The SG Forester was Subaru proving the boxer turbo formula worked in an SUV. The XT got a 2.5-liter turbo flat-four, a five-speed manual, and symmetrical AWD — the same ingredients as a WRX, wrapped in a body with roof rails and extra ground clearance. It wasn't pretty. It was honest. The SG could keep up with sport sedans on a canyon road and still clear a fire trail without scraping. Manual-equipped XTs are disappearing fast now. The people who own them treat them like the sleeper rally wagons they are.
