About the Legacy BD
Second-gen Legacy, and Subaru was finding its groove. The BD sedan got the EJ20 turbo making 276 hp in the GT-B trim, that gentleman's agreement number that kept showing up across Japanese performance cars. The naturally aspirated EJ22 made 135 hp and handled daily duties. Twin-turbo setup in the RS variant delivered power in a surge above 4,000 rpm that caught first-timers off guard. The chassis was stiffer than the BC, the interior more refined, and the overall package felt more like a proper mid-size sedan than an economy car with ambitions. AWD was standard across the range because Subaru. The BD wagon outsold the sedan in some markets. The BD Legacy was the generation that proved the first one wasn't a fluke.
