The BS Outback refined what the previous generation started and made the wagon-SUV crossover formula nearly untouchable. Between 2014 and 2019, this was the vehicle that convinced Americans to buy station wagons again — they just could not call them that. The 2.5-liter boxer paired with a CVT delivered respectable efficiency, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance meant light trails were genuinely doable. Subaru loaded it with EyeSight driver assistance early, before every manufacturer scrambled to offer the same thing.
